  I’m not yet a bunny owner, but I did fall in love with a little female bun that a local rescue has up for adoption. She’s super sweet and apparently came to them with a broken leg and broken tail. Her leg was fixed up by a vet in town, but I guess her tail bone broke from the rest of her vertebrae and is still just kinda sitting in the skin of her tail. It doesn’t seem to bother her and her foster said she has no problems going poo, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight about any potential problems in the future because of this.

  Well, tail perk-up is typically the sign your rabbit is about to pee, so that may or may not be more obvious.
  
  Depending on how it’s rested, her bottom may get more easily soiled by peeing and pooping, so cleaning may be more necessary, or keeping the litter box more clean.
  
  Humorously, I’d say it’d throw off balance. I say humorously because Wick uses his tail as a weight-offset when he’s climbing, which is hilarious because it weighs nothing and doesn’t help him, haha. He does it anyway though.
  
  You’ll definitely want to search your area for a rabbit experienced vet first. If there isn’t one, I’d consider passing on this rabbit. It’s unknown if this sort of condition could manifest into something that requires x-rays, surgery, medication, etc..

  I’d pass on this little cutie too, and she does sound cute. Rabbits like her are what house-rabbit people often call “special needs” buns, for pretty obvious reasons; these are bunnies that do best with experienced rabbit owners who have the knowledge to effectively address their health problems and the extra emotional commitment necessary to deal with what can sometimes be very difficult times. First-time bunny owners – I’m one too – are best off with buns that are in tip-top health, have congenial personalities and are easy (as easy as buns ever get, anyway!) to care for.

  I have boston who has “special needs” I guess, to a low degree.
  He is mostly blind , had suspected E cuniculi when I got him with head tilt. It’s unknown if this will re flare.
  The main extra things to consider ( I mean “extra” as in on top of what already needs to be considered when adopting a bun – time , cost , a rabbit savvy vet )
  Is HOW rabbit savvy your vet is, can they deal with the particular potential risks this means for this particular bunny- and the cost. Can you afford the potential vet bills if they do occur… it sounds like the rest of this bunnies care will be the same as any other bunny ( since still toilets well etc )
  But researching ( and asking rabbit vet ) what COULD potentially occur from this in the future would be a great place to start

  Also as wick said – the cleaning , ask the rescue if they have noticed if she cleans herself well or if they do extra care there – you would need to check more often incase of mess there as I suspect risk of that and that’s could lead to flystrike

  Thanks for responding I actually adopted two different bunnies today. I was a little worried about any additional vet costs and spoke with a vet about it as well. I loved her, and maybe in the future (if she’s still available) when I have more experience I would still love to add her to our family, but gonna stick with these two for now.
