How much does your bunny drink in a day and how often does s/he pee? I noticed my bunny has been drinking more than usual and she’s been peeing so much now. I’m happy that she uses her litter box and it gets so full and heavy in 2 days. I’m not sure if it’s because she’s growing fast or because I’m giving her more timothy hay and less alfalfa now. She’s only 3 months old.

Could be dental problems. This sounds like Wick after his first time around when needing to get teeth done. When was the last time you saw a rabbit vet?

Not as of yet. I feed her 2 alfalfa cubes as treats everyday. I don’t know if this is what caused it. Could it be kidney problems? I’m so worried

If you haven’t seen a vet yet, make an appointment as soon as you can. It’s important to have a professional look over her to make sure she is a healthy bun, and if not, what steps you should take to make sure she becomes one. Also, a vet will give you advice and recommendations on the best diet.

Can you find any rabbit experienced vets in your area? They’re known as exotic vets. Stay away from dog/cat vets as they often make poor decisions about rabbits because they don’t understand rabbit health.

What’s her diet? Aside from the cubes.

Is she eating more hay? If she is, it’s not unusual to see an increase in water consumption as hay is obviously very dry. Is it hotter where you are?

Try to measure the amount of water she consumes every day, and note it down every day for a week. A bunny should drink about 100 ml water per day and kg/body weight (that’s a little less than 50 ml water per pound rabbit). This is when the rabbit only eats dry food, no veg.

Drinking and peeing excessively is an observandum and can mean a whole host of things, ranging from very minor stuff to very serious health problems and anything in between. So it’s important for you to try and keep track of how much water she actually drinks so you can tell your vet. If it goes on for more than a week I’d contact a vet. Obviously if you start to see other signs of poor health, contact a vet right away.
