Hi all! I was just petting Asriel and noticed he had a bit of clumpy fur. Further inspection and I noticed t was a massive cluster of flaking skin. I’ve attached a photo of what it looks like. It looks a little pink and raw where the flaking is, but he doesn’t seem to be in discomfort when I touch the area. It’s right on his left shoulder blade area. I’m just a little worried because it’s a lot of flaking and large clumps too. He’s moulting his baby coat right now, if that helps. Any ideas what it could be?

I’m wondering if it’s mites. Does he get a monthly spot treatment for those? Some buns flare up after contact with hay or transfer from outdoors (via us, even).

I was thinking it might be mites too. This is the first time I’ve ever noticed it on him. Bombur has never had them either. I never knew they could get it from their hay. I was taking the boys to the vet to get nail trims this weekend, but should I get this checked out at the same time?

Yep. Vet will probably give them a drop of something each.

So I think Bombur has them now too ? I was just petting him and noticed the same clumpy feeling that I felt on Asriel. When I looked he had a mixture or dandruff and these little brown dots that looked like dirt and he he had a few large brown spots in the area. Definitely mites? My vet can’t see them until the 23rd which is a week away, is that too long? Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

Nothing you can do atm. Def sounds like mites.
They might be itchy and grumpy, but should be fine another week.
Then doc will do an easy peasy treatment and problem solved.
