From a quick read, Alpine hay is just fine, it is just another grass hay. Rabbits don’t need Timothy hay but they do need a grass hay, so meadow hay, orchard grass, timothy, oaten hay etc can all be used.

The added rosehip will be more of a treat, but it doesn’t look like there should be enough in there to cause much upset. If you have trouble with stomach upsets you could pick out the pieces of rosehip and give them more sparingly than they would get it otherwise.

Alpine hay is very common in Europe. It’s good hay. It’s often a mix of many different wild grasses. The rosehip is added as a treat or “hay topper” to entice the bun to eat more hay.

Timothy hay is generally recommended for feeding to your buns since it’s the most commonly available hay (and of course is very high in fiber content), but there are plenty of other good grass hays you can use if timothy isn’t on hand. In fact, my local rabbit rescue (Friends of Rabbits) recommends feeding rabbits a mixture of various hays, both for the varied taste and because the different types of hay require different chewing motions on the buns’ part which helps promote healthy tooth wear.

Do you have any farmers in your area that grow grass hay for fodder? I expect you could find one who’d be happy to sell you some. Also, if you have a rabbit rescue or similar organization in your area, some of them (like mine) sell hay – I picked up 1/3 of a bale of farm-fresh mixed hay from them on Saturday for much cheaper than I’d have paid in a pet or feed store ($8, to be exact; a whole bale, which I’d certainly have had no room to store, costs $24).

No need to remove the rose hips. Bunnies love them and I wouldn’t consider them “junkfood”. They are a hay topper.
