What a naughty bun  and yes you’re right these things always happen out of office hours. Silly rabbits! I would keep a very close eye for the next 24 to 48 hours. Generally if no problems have surfaced within that time, you’re in the clear. But do be vigilant! 

Well the good news is nothing seems to be slowing down yet. Initially I cleaned the entire pen and litter box of poops so I can see how many he has made. I’ve set an alarm to wake me up every hour and a half to check him. I have been feeling his belly and it does seem a bit hard, maybe just from eating hay so much? I’ve decreased pellets and left lots of hay in his pen. Any other ideas to help this pass smoothly?

Events like this is why I’ve been so darn paranoid this first week of life with rabbits that I’ve positioned the X-pen around my buns’ condo so that even if they manage to get one of the door latches open, they can’t get into much if any trouble!  With luck, Finn won’t suffer any ill effects – if the wipe tastes bad enough, it may turn him off them for life, even!

That is a very smart idea, Finn has a similar set up at my boyfriend’s house where he usually lives. Unfortunately with his URI he has to stay here because there is nobody available to administer his meds at the specified times.

I’m not so sure he’s going to be turned off by them, the reason I think he ate one in the first place is because he was trying to go for seconds when I realized it looked like one was gone
. This little boy sure is a handful.

What you’re doing is great! I’m not sure about the hard tummy – hopefully someone else will chime in – but another thing you can do to help this to pass through is to encourage water consumption and get him moving about. 

I have offered him his usual water bottle plus a bowl, I’ve also been offering some water in a syringe every hour and a half,the only thing that is starting to concern me is that he doesn’t seem as thirsty as he was earlier in the night. He has Bern sleeping for a bit now and when I wake him up he will play for a bit and go back to sleep, there are cecotropes in and around his tunnel where he has been sleeping. If any of this information sounds concerning please let me know.

It really does sound like you are on the ball! In regards to him sleeping, what time is it where you are? Bunnies often snooze during the day time so if it’s normal for your bun to sleep during this time I wouldn’t be concerned. What I often do if I want/need to encourage my bunnies to move about is I’ll hold up their favourite treat and call them over. Feed them that, then go to the opposite side of the room and call them over again. My house is tiny so I have to do this quite a few times lol but anything that gets them running is great so I would try that!

For the cecals, do you usually see any or does he usually nom them all? That’s the part that’s concerning to me because when Buttercup had stasis the first time, she overproduced cecals but ceased all normal poops. He’s still pooping normally isn’t he?

He naps pretty frequently, he’s up running fast, doing binkies, chasing people around,
and causing trouble as usual right now.

He does produce lots of cecals normally, I will usually find leftovers. There are still some normal solid poops too.

That’s good to hear, he’s gotta be the craziest bunny I’ve ever seen. My last boy was a gentle giant who did nothing but snuggle. This little guy is constantly getting into something.

Big bunnies tend to be a lot more laid-back and relaxed about life. It’s the small buns that are little fluffy long-eared tornadoes. My own Panda and Fernando are Polish buns (the smallest non-dwarf breed); they’ve been fairly sedate so far while they’re getting accustomed to their new life, but once they do – watch out!!!

Yes, I have definitely heard this. My first was unknown we think some kind of mini lop and French lop mix (much too heavy for a mini much too small for a french even though he was not overweight) he was a very sweet boy. Finn is a Holland lop and boy do I have my hands full. I was under the impression that lops were pretty easy going in general haha, oh well I still love my crazy binky hopper.

Sounds like my Buttercup – her mission in life is to get into the pantry at every sneaky opportunity. She hides against the walls to get closer  

Oh no, sounds like trouble better hide your snacks!
