Hi all!!
I have a few questions related to my bun’s litter habits. First off some background info. I got it VERY young. About 6 weeks of age – I didn’t know at the time they should only be weened at 8 weeks and will not use that supplier again. It seemed to litter train quite quickly. It only peed in the box but I found the occasional poop outside of the box. It free roams in my room but has a nice hutch. I do not like to confine it to its hutch, however. I also do not know if it’s a buck/doe. Recently he gained access to my bed. I love that it can jump up and come cuddle, it is very tame and loves to be pet. BUT ever since being allowed on the bed it pees on the bed constantly. I cleaned everytime and got rid of the odor. Recently I read that when still newish (I’ve had it for 2 weeks) you should leave the pee as it’s their way to mark their territory. But it’s becoming excessive. He pees like 6-8 times on it in a day/during the night. How do I teach him not to? I eben put a litterbox on the bed even but this doesn’t seem to help. Then, next thing. He started pooping EVERYWHERE. All over the room and bed and next to its litterbox even though the pee is still only in the box (save for those on the bed). I don’t know how to get him to understand that poos also go in the box. I pick them up (there’s a whole lot!!!) and throw them in the box but he doesn’t seem to get it. Is this because he is still young? Does he have too much space? He has his own corner where all his food and toys and his cage and litter box etc are. The poos were usually confined to this area. But not anymore. Also, his food/water is next to his box which worked perfectly in the beginning. But again, not anymore. Please any guidance will be greatly appreciated as I’m a first time bun owner. ♡
