I often see it written that bunnies produce their cecals overnight or early morning but is this actually the average? I ask because both of mine seem to produce them throughout the day, any time! I often see them ‘grooming’ down there but they are chewing so clearly eating their cecotropes. Just wondered if this is an anomaly or if it really does vary.

Also, is it normal for bunny poop to smell? The normal poops, not the cecals? Both of mine produce smelly poops. Not ‘I can smell it across the room’ type but if I sniff up close (lol)?

Rabbits sometimes intermittently poop territory marking poops, which do smell strongly, do you think this might be it?
Also cecotrope eating is the same with mine, I think it’s more like cows chewing the cud, it’s easier in the evening and night
night cause they’re disturbed less, but if they are just chilling there’s no reason to not.

            Ah, makes sense!

I don’t think it is territory marking poops as it’s in the litter box mostly.

Yumi still likes to make sure everyone knows that the litter box and often marks it, I’d never thought it an abnormal habit til now?

I think my two have always done smelly poops and I didn’t really think anything of it but I keep reading that bunny poop should be odourless….so maybe they are marking the litter tray as theirs?

It all sounds perfectly normal to me.

Wick ramped up in smelly poos leading up to his neuter. It still happens occasionally post neuter, but not as often and concentrated.

Sometimes I will see Ophelia going for some during the day. Not my favorite thing to think about when she then proceeds to come and groom us >.> <.<
