Zeus had his neuter done at 1pm yesterday. I gave him metacam and buprenorphine at 6pm. I woke up today at 4am, im trying to give him meds but he wont take them and moves his head when i try to out the syringe near his mouth.
I tried wet greens, he only ate a piece of cilantro. I was able to hand feed a teaspoon of pellets before he lost interest.
He has pooped a little, but hasnt peed since hes gotten home. I also syringe fed him about 1ml of water.
Suggestions to entice him to drink water?

Some buns like it if you put a bit of unsweetened apple juice in their water. (But some rabbits hate it when the water tastes different, so provide plain water as well.)

He was probably given fluids at the vet, so that he hasn’t drunk could be due to that – but the fact that he hasn’t peed is more worrisome. If he hasn’t peed at all in 8-12 hours, I’d call the vet. There could be swelling that blocks the urethra and he could need help expressing his bladder. If he doesn’t pee, don’t force water in him until you’ve spoken with the vet.

On the bill it says they gave him 250 ml of subcutaneous fluid. I thought it was just to get him through the day.
Ill keep an eye out to see if he pees.
Hopefully i can get him to take his meds.

Not drinking is not unusual following a neuter. Wick didn’t drink for two days I believe. He did eat veggies and peed a bit though. I was worried and syringe fed him half a syringe just to be safe.

Try to switch the water out for more fresh water often. Wick sometimes is interested in drinking, but won’t do it until I dump the bowl and reprep the water….

              Extra soaking veggies is good.

My Peanut didn’t drink for a couple of days, like Wick. So I just gave him extra wet veggies. He did pee though.

How long has he been home and not peed?

I agree with the others, it is worrisome if he is not peeing. Ophelia didn’t drink for about 2 days after her spay, but she was still peeing so I knew she wasn’t getting dehydrated. I gave lots of wet veggies like bell pepper and rinsed romaine lettuce. If he isn’t peeing and it’s been 12 hours, I would call the vet. My bun did not want to take the metacam the first day, but she really gobbled it up after that. She also didn’t want to eat much hay, so I gave her lots of veggies. After about 2-3 days her appetite normalized. How is his poop output?

What’s your set up like? Is it possible he could be peeing somewhere else? If your still using litter and hay this might be uncomfortable for him to sit in after his neuter so he may not want to go there. My female was spayed yesterday and she is normally a massive water drinker but has barely had any but has peed quite a lot. I’ve just been using puppy training pads inside the litter tray and I have stopped putting hay in the box and just fastened it so it’s a little off the ground above her tray.

Eddie does make s good point! If you use a puppy pee pad instead of litter, you’ll be able to see if he pees, plus there’s no risk of anything irritating his wound.

Have you seen any pee yet?

He finally peed! His cage has 2 floors. I gave him wet veggies and he munched on them throughout the day. Its been 12 hours since i first posted, he peed a little a few hours after the post. He kept going back to the litterbox trying to go. I felt helpless and tried not to put pressure on him.
An hour ago he tried to pee again and it was a full pee this time. He hasnt drunk anymore water, but hes munching on hay.
His litterbox has a plastic grate ontop, so i went without any litter to monitor pees and poops for a couple days.
Thank you everyone for your responses! I was really worried about him
