Hello everybun! I have a 1.5 year old spayed female bunny named Rue who has some recurring bouts of gas from time to time, and has had one episode where she was teetering on the edge of GI stasis about 8 months ago.
Last night, she was running around and I noticed that she produced a few smallish stools, followed by a pinkie sized mucoid stool, and after that, a few larger/irregular sized soft stools. Within ten minutes of those stools frame she produced stools that were visibly normal in size/shape/consistency, and this morning her stools were normal shape and consistency, but smaller in size. Activity level, appetite, and attitude are normal thus far. She is eating on her own, and drinking.
I have all but completely cut out pellets from her diet, she gets about 5 pellets in the morning and 5 at night. She is an EXTREMELY easy keeper, so I am not having a hard time keeping weight on her even with reduced pellets. I often will supplement her with critical care that she eats out of a bowl. She gets unlimited timothy hay and a handful of orchard hay a day. I give her digestive enzyme tablets daily. When she gets gassy, I will use Gas X and Metacam, as directed by her Vet, along with tummy massage.
Is there anyone who has experience with this?? I’m trying to stay on top of everything as best I can, but was hoping I could gain some tips and encouragement from other bunny parents.
Thanks you!
