We had baby bunnies from our female , Wallace. And ended up keeping one of her babies ,spunky. Well about a week ago spunky went missing , they have free range of a portion of our yard with a chicken coop as shelter and was nowhere in their pen or in the main yard. Ever since then she’s been acting odd, she packed in all their tunnels and holes , then redug them, then packed them in again. I also noticed her ear hair is starting to fall out or become more sparse. Is she stressed out because she misses her baby/companion ? And how do I help her recoop, is it a good idea to re-breed her anytime soon ? TIA

Stressed or theyre being attacked. Its really not smart to allow rabbits to freeroam a yard. They need to be covered and protected at all times while outside or theyre constantly at risk of death (birds, dogs, cats, ect)

            1) If a rabbit was able to escape or be killed, the environment clearly isn’t safe. I urge you to either make it safe outside or bring them all in.

            2) Why on earth would you breed from her again? There are plenty of shelter buns in need of a home and not being rude, your habitat isn’t safe for them..

              Hi Autumn

Im sorry to hear about Spunky going missing. I hope there is a good outcome and he/she returns. It’s thought they don’t stray far from home. But if there are predators about, I fear he may already be lost to you. Especially if there are foxes.

Is Spunky also a female?  You have other rabbits also? Adult males?

The behaviour from Wallace sounds like she may have already had another litter. Packing the tunnels at the entrance is what rabbit moms do at their nests. If you do have a male rabbit and Spunky is a female of age, I would then wonder if they both have litters and Wallace is attending both?

Please be aware, Binky Bunny is a House Rabbit Community and we mostly  focus on health and happiness of rabbits living indoors.  The subject of intentional breeding is also not permitted. You can view the Forum Rules and Guidelines to go over the specifics about that. It is fine to have mentioned Wallace has had a litter, but no discussion of intentionally breeding her again can be allowed. You will need to seek advice on other forums on that aspect.

We can certainly help with any other questions though, such as Wallace’s behaviour.

Crossing my fingers Spunky turns up. That’s very sad.
