Please help!!! Milhouse got to a houseplant that I believe to be Pothos. All of the vets keep telling me to call animal poison control. Does anyone know what I should be looking out for symptom wise?? She is eating and acting normal. Please help advise!

Did you call animal poison control? They will be most familiar

I wish I could be more helpful, but all I know is that you should also make sure to keep her eating and drinking.

I finally found a vet who would give me information. They said it causes oral irritation and swelling. They said to just make sure she is still able to eat (which she can), and she should be okay.

Thank you everyone! I was about to call animal poison control, but wanted to first ask local vets in the event that she needed to be brought in. Sure enough the last vet I called recently got a call about the same plant and a g.pig and was very helpful. I believe a close eye on her will be okay. She isn’t showing any signs or irritation or pain in her mouth.

I’m sure you’ve already done so, but make sure the plant is inaccessible to a curious bun!!

How is she doing now? Pothos plants have calcium oxalate crystals that are very sharp and can cause irritation.

We have had other buns here that ate this type of plant and for reasons not known showed no symptoms. It might be that rabbits instinctively know to choose leaves with low amounts of the sharp crystals in them.

Oddly, rabbits seem to be able to eat some plants that would normally cause irritation of the mouth, etc. and have no ill effects. As Bam said, it isn’t completely understood why this is.
