How exciting! Are the two males already bonded to each other? When you say “they” will all be free range after being bonded, do you mean you intend to bond all 4 together? I’ve heard of a bonded trio before, but I’m not sure if there is such a thing as a bonded quad? Luna is a single bun, so maybe other members can weigh in .

While I haven’t gone through the bonding process yet, I do have two bunnies that I am planning on bonding after my lop is old enough to be neutered. While I do think it would be very exciting to have four little ones running around, I do think that Luna has a point. I’m not saying it’s impossible, because I’m sure it isn’t, but I do think that trying to bond two pairs would be extremely time consuming, frustrating, and difficult! That is my opinion based on what I have read/heard from others. Also, it would be very important to find out if the two you are getting would already be bonded. You definitely want them to already be bonded to each other, so if things don’t work out with the quad, you could still have them as two pairs. That’s the other thing to consider, if you can’t get all 4 to bond to each other, do you have the time and resources to devote to two separate pairs of buns? There is another member here, I think her name is Ginny, and I think she has 6 bunnies, who are bonded into 3 pairs. She might be able to give you some insight on what it’s like to work with that many buns!

Hi, I have 3 boy/girl pairs. When I just had 2 pairs, I did try to bond into a quartet, but gave up, as the 2 girls made it clear they would never get on. When I took on the 3rd pair, I hoped that they would make a quartet with on of the other pairs, but it became clear very soon that would not happen, and I’ve had to adapt my house to manage 3 separate pairs – doable, but hard work! 

It is however quite possible to have a bonded quartet, or even bigger groups. I think this would depend on the various personalities of the buns, all my 3 girls are very dominant buns, only accepting of their own ‘husbuns’. 

If you do decided to take these two on, you will need separate cages/runs until they are bonded, neutral territory to bond in, plenty of undivided time to spare, and a way to keep all the buns separate if bonding doesn’t work out. Also, be aware that bringing new buns into a home has been known to cause problems in the bond of buns already living in that home. Worst case scenario, could you manage with 4 solo buns, even on a temporary basis? And if you end up with 2 bonded pairs, how will that work with free roam? Each pair won’t just stay in one half of an accessible space just because there is another pair of buns the other side of the room!

I think most people tend to think of bunnies as either singles or pairs. So when you hear of a trio you go, oh man, I can’t imagine three bunnies! …Then you hear of a quad and think “WOAH they are nuts!!!!”

I think she meant just that she hadn’t heard of it. It’s hard to wrap your head around for a single or duo owner!!!
