Is it for sure he’s asleep, or could it be he’s lethargic or potentially hunching as a sign of discomfort?

Not doubting you, but want to rule out health concerns.

Rabbits mainly sleep throughout the day. It’s sad that you say you’re disappointed, you’ve only had him 6 days – “what’s the point having a bun if he doesn’t love me” – that sounds awful, firstly you’ve not even had him a week yet! He’s a prey animal, you’re a scary human. He needs time to learn he can trust you. Secondly, he might not even be a particularly affectionate bun when he does trust you. You need to accept that.

If he eats, drinks and poops like he should, sleeping a lot is normal for a very young bunny. All baby animals incl. humans sleep lots. It’s the brain’s way of processing all the learning that has been done during the waking time -and to a young being, everything is learning.

Please don’t be impatient with him. Rabbits are not like dogs and cats. They need longer time to adjust to their human. They are prey animals, and their instincts tell them to be very cautious or they’ll get eaten.

Try and let him come to you rather than the opposite. Be kind and patient.

Finnegan was a baby when my bother got him. He also spent a lot of time sleeping so it is perfectly normal for baby animals to sleep for long periods of time. You also have to keep in mind that rabbits are nocturnal so as a baby that is not used to a new sleep/ feeding schedule, he will spend most of the daylight hours asleep

Give him time. Also, mine have been more lazy than Normal because it’s summer here in Salem, MA and they’re hot. I’m not sure where you live/the weather, but that could be a factor as well.

He’s only 8 weeks old. Babies need lots of sleep.
