I have two bunnies, and one of them seems to really like visiting the vet. And by that I mean, he keeps getting himself sick or hurt.
He broke his front leg a while back, and fortunately 12 weeks later he is healed from that! But now we are dealing with a couple of complications from the time he was healing. While he was healing, he had all the risk factors for sore hocks and developed a bright red sore spot on his good front leg. He’s now back in his regular living space with a nicely padded floor, but still puts a lot of his weight on this leg while the (formerly) fractured one continues to regain muscle.
Then last week he started to randomly lose fur on his nose. So we took him to a new vet who is doing a culture on a sample from his nose, thinking that he may have picked up an infection from his many, many vet visits to re-check his leg. He sent us home with baytril otic to treat both the leg and the nose until the culture shows results at which time he said he will likely switch to a new antibiotic or antifungal. His nose is doing better with the baytril, but his foot sore really doesn’t seem to have changed better or worse. My bun’s next follow-up appt is two days from now (tomorrow is a holiday), so I’m just wondering if there’s anything else we can do in the meantime to help the sore on his foot. He doesn’t seem to be in pain and his appetite is normal, but I have some leftover meloxicam from his broken leg and I may administer that just in case – I don’t want him to decide to stop eating on a holiday when the vets closed!
Thanks all. One day I know he’ll be 100% healthy again, we just need to get through this whole mess!
