        Hi there!

So I have two female rabbits (Innie and Mo)… I have had Innie for longer (she is the sweetest bun one on one, loves cuddling and kisses continuously) so we thought she might like a friend to bond to since she loved bonding with us (and we are in school during the day). We bought the second bun about half a year ago and they still aren’t completely bonded (we did do a bunny date and they mostly sniffed each other and then ignored each other), but the original (Innie) humps Mo so often that it annoys her, and if it annoys her enough they fight. So far they are mostly okay together almost the whole day (aside from some chasing, always Innie chasing Mo), and they go back into their cages at night. We were thinking introducing a male bunny might help them in the long run, especially if they both bond with him. There is one right now up for adoption that seems like it would be a good fit to try… What do you think?

        Thanks!

Pairs are easier than bonding in odd numbers. You are better off cementing their bond than trying to add in a new one.

Pairs are much easier to bond – adding a third might ruin what you have rather than make it better. Trios do sometimes work and I will be attempting one soon, but it probably wouldn’t be ideal in your situation seeing as your females aren’t bonded yet. Adding a third rabbit can split up a fully bonded pair. Chances are adding a male now would just leave one of your females being a third wheel.

            Are your females spayed?

Yes they are spayed. Their first interaction with each other was so good. It was working for a while and they are now just good at tolerating each other. They’ve been together for half a year… I’ve heard there are perks to having none of them bonded? But also I don’t even know if they are bonded because like I said it seems like they just tolerate each other. Mo occasionally grooms Innie (because Innie pushes her nose under her when she is cleaning. Their only problem is that Innie wants more attention than Mo is willing to give.

They are not bonded. Any signs of aggression means they are not bonded, and you pointed out several signs of aggression. You should cement their bond before trying anything, or stop trying to bond them at all and bond one of them with your new bunny. No matter what, in your situation, one pair and one single is the best way to go for now.

Several signs of aggression? Like what? My first post was explaining our bonding process and then the only thing I mentioned that is recent is occasional chasing. They are together the entire day every day with occasional chasing, and they are put in separate cages for bedtime. They lay out long with their legs flicked out behind them on almost an hourly basis near each other and Binky when they are close. Innie is definitely the dominant one, claiming some territory (ie me. She gets jealous when I snuggle and pet Mo but her only action is to come in and push herself into my hands to make me pet her instead) and always being the bun whose nose goes the lowest (ie recieves groomings).

Mounting so much to cause fighting is aggression. Fighting in itself is aggression. Chasing is aggression. In your post, you said all of this still happens after trying to bond for six months. They are not bonded while they still show multiple sings of aggression, repeatedly. It doesnt matter if they lay together and groom sometimes, that does not mean they are bonded. Repeated aggression shows they are clearly not bonded. You should not be trying to bond a third into them, while they cant even bond themselves.

Sorry. I didn’t mean for that to sound that way. That is what happens to cause them to fight, but it hasn’t happened for a long time.
