Yes, I know bunnies are messy… but lily is MESSY. She has a fleece bottom on her puppy pen but its hard to change every 1-2 days since its so hard to move my puppy pen with my cramped room and all the furniture in her cage. I need to know some ways to help avoid this, hopefully making me only deep clean every 4+ days. She has hay in 2 places inside the pen, in her hay rack (makes mess) and in a small hay box but that is barely full and more or less a backup hay if she runs out in the hay rack. She still poops outside her litter box very often but im willing to clean up amounts that small. No matter how confined it is though hay gets absolutely everywhere and even her barely messy toys make big messes.

do you feed her in the litter box? i use a large plastic bin put the food bowl in it and the hay rack on the cage about it as well, helped contain my messes a little better.

I’ve got two bunnies who have separate pens. One of them he is extremely clean and their is barely a strand of hay anywhere but his box and his blanket is perfectly neat. The other is the complete opposite. There is always hay everywhere and the blanket scuffled up. I’ve given up trying to keep this neat and looking how I want it because I have decided that this is they way that they are choosing to live and it’s part of the layout they want. No matter how many times I try to sweep it up it just goes right back to how it was. As long as the area is clean, so no pee or poop anywhere and I keep the area spacious for them to run around I am happy to leave it. Maybe you could try a lint roller just to run over the area to just minimise the loose hay. I use this occasionally as is a bit easier than getting the brush constantly

I made a more -boxy- littler box for Wick so the hay stays in it’s place.

Lily has a mid height litter box (she wont use the high one)
Her food bowl is mostly fine
I’ve needed to stop using a water bowl and just replace it with a large bottle, once all this is sorted though she will be going back to both.
I’m considering making another hay rack but I have like no building skills, hay bags haven’t worked for me either.
Hay is the main culprit and it’s so annoying. im thinking of switching litters soon so I can switch it our daily so that the litter box hay isn’t a problem.

Hay was always my problem, too. Olaf loves to rip it out, no matter what container I put it in, and is very picky about what he will eat and what becomes a cage decoration. I finally succumbed to the fact that hay will inevitably be around but I use a hay bag that hangs over his litter box. The litter box has a grate so some of the smaller bits of hay fall in while the rest collects in a pile on that side of the box. I usually remove any hay that is on the grid every morning and remove the hay underneath when I do a box clean every three days. It’s almost impossible to keep hay from getting everywhere but at least you might be able to keep it in the litter box area that will be cleaned anyways.

I’ve found the best way to stop hay getting everywhere is having a huge plastic box. I put a litter tray at each end, then fill the middle between the two litter trays with hay. Because the big plastic box has higher sides than a litter tray the hay tends to stay within the large box, and they mostly poop in the litter trays since they’re right next to the hay. You do need to make sure that the space between the trays isn’t really big enough for them to sit in, otherwise they end up peeing and pooping IN the hay section!

I sweep the hay off my fleece on a daily (sometimes twice daily) basis, Apollo and Luna just get it everywhere. However the fleece isn’t dirty. A few stray poops as well that I just sweep up and put in the litter box. I only change the fleece once a week. At the end of the week it’s absolutely plastered with fur and yes, there’s more hay there every day, but I don’t consider it dirty.
