A cat litter box is a good idea! If you’re rabbit is free range, then you should get several. Inside the box, you should use some paper litter pellets. Make sure that it is a comfortable fit for your bun, and keep in mind she will be growing! As for the hay thing, my bunny, Snoopy likes his hay pretty much anywhere. Put a bit in her litter box, and you can put large handfuls of it in her cage! Remember, lots of hay! Also, congrats on your new bunny! Having bunny is a rewarding experience!

Rabbits prefer a larger box. Keep in mind that as a Flemish, almost any regular sized cat litter box will eventually probably too small. Rabbits are well known for peeing over the edge of boxes if the sides are too short, or just missing or not using it altogether if they feel it is too small. If you can find a large cat litter box, or even simple storage containers can be used. Under bed storage tubs are nice because they don’t have the tall sides, but if you get a container with tall sides you can always cut one side down lower so bun can hop in and out easily.

Bun needs room to turn around in the box and room for hay eating.

My bunnies have all loved to flop in their litter box, for a lot of rabbits it a preferred hang out zone! I would say the bigger the better for a baby thats going to get as big as yours will! I use a cat litter box for each of mine, as they are small enough to fit in it comfortably, but when I had two bonded they had a large under the bed storage box..and even then they probably would have liked more room !

It can’t hurt to bring some frozen bottles along just in case. The AC is good, but I wouldn’t have it blowing directly on her. 3 days, how exciting

Oooh, how exciting for you. Our English Angora was only about 700grams when he was 8 weeks old (all fluff) and we had a cat litter box for him. But being angora, the litter was getting caught up in his fur – as were some of his poops at times. He had to be neutered this week – so I ordered a corner style litter box with a litter screen as I was conscious of keeping his undercarriage clean and dry and clear of litter. 

It’s fabulous and he’s taken to it like a fish to water. He now sleeps on top of it (didn’t do this previously with his cat litter box) and I’m not worried about it since nothing attaches to him – and as he’s not sleeping directly in litter (or hay) he doesn’t smell at all. I purchased the jumbo size tray as Teddy is now over 2 kilos (5 months old) and still growing. The high back on the tray has also stopped his wee from going over the side. He’s always been great at using the litter box but clearly didn’t realise how big his bum was getting  and it was often hanging over the side of the traditional tray 

I wish I’d gotten this style of tray earlier now – I would have greatly saved on paper towels and vinegar! Enjoy your new bunny.

Teddy seems to be doing really well. The vet said he vacuumed up his food once he woke up and he was super happy to get home. Though he’s not impressed with his tiny sized space at the moment. There is room enough for his food bowls, his litter tray and his sea grass mat. I was worried he would try to jump out last night, but he seems to have come to terms with it better today.

Google the Jumbo size Ware Scatterless litter pan with guard – it’s what Teddy now has – might not be big enough once your bun is fully grown – but I’ve been surprised at the small litter trays that some bunnies seem happy with and can easily use.

That’s great that he’s been litter trained already. Teddy only took a couple of days – though he still drops his poo pellets all over the place. But at least the wee is in the tray
