It is very hot here where I live, in the high 90s, and we don’t currently have access to A/C until the end of the month. So, what is a good way to cool of my Lionhead bunny, Coco? He has a room which he is free ranged in and a window in it which I open to freshen the room and to try and cool him down a little. Underneath my bed, and everywhere, it is all carpet. Please answer fast so I can cool him down quickly! Thank you.

It is very hot where I live too, its like 103 degrees during the afternoon so I have figured out many ways to keep my bunny mocha, cool. Since we also have carpets I bought a small ceramic tile last summer and whenever she gets too hot she just lays down on it. Another thing you can do is change her playtime to early morning and late afternoon which is usually the coolest parts of the day. As treats you can freeze little pieces of fruit or you can put ice cubes in his water bowl. It also helps to turn on a ceiling fan but if you don’t have one in the room you can just plug in the small ones, just don’t point it directly at him. My favorite way to cool mocha down though it to fill a plastic bottle with water and freeze it (you might want to freeze more than one because they will melt) put it in his cage an he can lay against it. Hope these help!

I know you posted this a week ago but I’m sure you (and others reading this) will have more hot days in the future.

When my bunnies lived outdoors I used to give them lots of frozen water bottles (you can cover them with fabric so it’s not such a shock) and I made sure they were in the shade.

Now that they are indoors I still do the frozen bottles on really hot days, but I also make sure I have a fan on in the room they are in.

And the obvious make sure there is lots of fresh water available, and that it doesn’t warm up too much! When I had Ogg she always wanted to be active (no matter what) so I made sure she had a good play early morning before it got too hot so that she was happy to rest in the middle of the day.

This is our first summer with Bunji and the heatwaves have started in Southern California. Fortunately, we have AC. I’ve never needed to have the AC on all day long before and I am NOT looking forward to our next electricity bill.

Bunji lives in our open area living room/dining room. We don’t have windows per se, but a wall-to-wall sliding glass doors going out into the balcony, which is east facing. It gets pretty hot in the living room once the sun is out and the heat normally stays there all day. So, we keep the AC at a decent 78 degrees, have 2 swiveling fans going at different sides of the living space, and a frozen water bottle under he couch where Bunji likes to loaf throughout the day. I bought a sun shade fabric from home depot and hung out at our balcony to filter some of the sunlight going into our room. It works a little bit–instead of waking up to an 80-degree house, we now wake to up to 75 :/ Not sure if all this is overkill but whatevs.

At night, when it gets cooler, we open up the sliding doors and front door to let the cool night air pass through. We typically wake up at dawn; we’ll then close all the doors to hopefully trap some of the cool air inside.

Hi! Bunnies can get very hot in the Summer so here is a list of things that can help him

1: Place frozen water bottles in cage and cover it with a sock so it’s not to cold
2: Place ceramic tiles in his cage so he can lay on them and cool down
3: Place a fan in his cage and put a wet towel over it. This is one of my favorites if your bun is indoors
4: You can give frozen fruit as a treat
5: Mist your rabbits ears!! Rabbits dissipate heat through their ears which basically means they take all their heat and put it in their ears, so this will help a lot

                  Hope this helps!

You can freeze 2-liter bottles of water, put it down by your bunny and the bunny may lay next to it to cool himself off.

I discussed the hot-weather issue with my buns’ foster mom while I was visiting them this morning (they’re coming home tomorrow!) and she gave me a couple of ceramic tiles to lay down, as Bunnybuzz suggested. If you have air conditioning, you might also want to set the temperature lower when you know a heat wave is hitting. Northern Virginia always has hot summers, sometimes brutally so, so I’m paying close attention to all these tips.
