Yes I have a cage and his space will be limited at first for sure. Rookie was the same when he came home. I gradually made his run bigger.

Cuddles…i can’t wait…rookie was not a cuddles cause I was scared of holding him and he was scared of being held so I’m hoping with early handling Sprocket will be a bit of a snuggler.

I have met Sprocket two weeks ago and from what I can see he is anything but timid. He is full if energy and mischief…kind of like Rookie was. As babies they seem very similar…but I’m not looking to replace Rookie or have Sprocket try and fill the space he left or try and live up to who he was. Rookie was too special to me to ever try and replace him or try and have another bun compared.

I’m starting him on just hay and water for now. When do you add pellets?

He is also starting out in a fairly large cage big XL dog crate until he gets the basics of potty training.

Any other suggestions?

This little guy has been a little angel so far.
Sprocket has been nibbling on some alfalfa hay but not a whole lot. He has been a bigger fan of the hay ball he has. He is drinking well too. Has a bowl and now I got him a water bottle as well. He has been peeing in the litter box no problem. No accidents. Very impressed actually. However he hasn’t been pooping very much. He popped a little yesterday but nothing since I changed the litter box earlier today. Is that to be expected?
He has been super relaxed and chill. He was left out a few times today to explore and he loved it. Vinyl madness all around. He is limited to the cage for now due to our German Sheppard as well his litter training. Sprocket is not bothered by the dog at all but Sasha is only 1 years old and gets way too excited and Sprocket is just too little to be able to be around her for now. Sprocket goes back to his cage on his own when he is tired and he goes back to check to make sure it’s still there when he explores a bit too far from it for his liking lol.

Ok so I’m sorry but after Rookie I think I’m over analyzing Sprocket watching his every move jumping on every sneeze or other sounds…

I noticed to craziest thing…when Sprocket is falling into deep sleep he is squeaking or simmering quietly in his sleep…at first I thought it was his nose whistling but it isn’t…its him making the sound. I was petting him and when I would stop he would stop the sound too. And when I started again he did too. Almost as if he does it instead of the teeth chatter purring which he also does ..but then he stops and keeps sleeping .
Is this normal?

His breathing seems good. Deep sleepy breaths …his whole body moves with it…then he falls deep asleep and it slows and I actually have to look closely to see his breaths. But he Doesn’t seem to be struggling for breaths it anything. He is very active and binkiiing a lot too.

Since he hasn’t been a huge fan of hay so far I’m thinking of getting him some pellets today. Rookie was very particular about which one he liked but with Sprocket I want to go by the book as much as possible.

Should I get him the young bunny food or just stray him off on the normal type of pellets? Thoughts?

I got him the same brand I gave Rookie for now. He had a 5 pieces or so but wasn’t an overly big fan. I’ll look into the other young rabbit food by Oxbow but I might have to get that from the vet as I can’t find it in stores.
