        Hello!
I have a two month old netherland dwarf, and we got her from a breeder who told us she didn’t make the cut for being a show rabbit. Anyways, the breeder gave us a bag of petrus 50/50 pellets, and I am extremely lost on how much I should be giving her. I usually give her a handful in the morning and throughout the day I gave her a few and then at night a handful. I monitor how much hay she has been eating and if her pee and poop is normal, and everything seems to be going fine however I don’t want to be feeding her the wrong amount that could hurt her. I have looked online, and I seem to find a lot of mixed answers regarding how much I should be feeding a baby. Some people say it should be unlimited, but I find others saying I need to weigh her?

          Here is a good resource!

Most recommend feeding unlimited pellets to young rabbits, in addition to alfalfa or timothy hay. It is good that she is peeing and pooping regularly. In my understanding, it is good to know the weight of the bun to estimate growth and for adult feeding amounts. Perhaps someone knows something more about feeding young rabbits?

          Congrats on your new bun!

I fed all my buns unlimited till the age of 6 months and at 6 months you switch to amount by weight and then split it twice for two meals a day (or all at once and veggies later)

So if you weigh her at 6 months and she needs 1/2 a cup daily according to the chart on the back of the bag (most pellets have a chart anyways) then you can split that to 1/4th per meal. Meals at the age of 6 months should be 12 hours apart (so 7am and 7pm for example)

Or feed all the pellets in the morning and give veggies at night

Also at 12 weeks old (3 months) you should start introducing veggies (one new veggie per day) until she has a big amount of veggies in a wide variety

But for now unlimited pellets and hay and water and no veggies! Cause she’s growing and needs lots of food

            Hope that helped.

I have a 3 month old Netherland dwarf and I feed him unlimited pellets and I will until 5-6 months old then I will slowly decrease them. I normally give him 3 tbs in the morning and 1 tbs at night at he never need more then that. After he turn 5-6 months I will decrease him to 1 – 1 1/2 tbs of pellets.
