We got our bunny, Shark, on Cinco de Mayo from a friend who could not keep her. Apparently he got her from a family member with a litter of babies who were well (enough) taken care of as far as I could tell… but we do not know much else about her. The info we got upon adopting her was that 1. it was a boy, 2. he is 8 weeks old, 3. breed is “miniature dwarf”. As I was already looking for a pet rabbit, knew that “miniature dwarf” was not a breed and, and the pictures of the bunny seemed to indicate as much, I interpreted that as meaning Netherland dwarf. I was also hesitant to trust that any of that other basic information about her was true, but more than happy to give her a chance and some love!

A couple weeks later, I took Shark to a recommended vet for rabbits, and the vet’s assessment was that 1. it was a GIRL, weighed 8oz. 2. she was at MOST 5 weeks old, and 3. may grow to 10lb. max. That size was much larger than I’d bargained for, but I was not concerned about these things as much as that she was healthy and that we were doing a good job caring for her.

Fast forward to now. She has had supervised free range of 2 large rooms for several hours a day, plus lots of human interaction (I’ve never raised a baby bunny before but I have raised puppies and hamsters. Just applying the same principles and doing a lot of internet research!) – she is very friendly, curious and affectionate. I’d estimate her weight at about 12oz. now, but have not officially weighed her since the vet did.

I’m wondering if anyone can better identify her breed, or give some insight into her age since the vet’s estimate was so far off from what we initially thought? I’m posting pictures from the first week we got her and a couple from today so you can see the difference in how she’s grown. I appreciate any insight you all may have!
