My bun Marley keeps honking or making a soft squeak type noise and I’m not sure why. Is he okay? I have him separated from my other 2 buns. He makes the noise randomly but also whenever one of the other bunnies comes near him while he’s in or out of his cage. What’s going on? Is he upset? I read maybe he wants to maybe but I’m not sure

My rabbit honks in aggression. Is Marley bonded with the other rabbits? My rabbit Severus honks at his unbonded be soon to be bonded neighbor Houdini. When Houdini has time outside his pen and goes near Sev’s cage, Sev honks and launches towards him. When bonding Sev would honk and launch towards Houdini. Severus also honks and does a squeak noise when she’s about to get her food, she used to have food aggression but it has slowly gone away. She also honks when scared. My cat went to rub against Sev (in a friendly way) and Sev was expecting it and honked at my cat which cause my cat to jump. Lol they scared each other. Sev also honks when I touch her chest trying to pluck her shedding fur. Honking can range from buns being angry, scared, or just to tell you “I don’t like that”. I have also heard Sev squeak when happy. I’m sure it ranges across all buns. Houdini never honks, he is a quiet one. Observe your bun and see what triggers it. It’s hard to tell what is going on without seeing it. It seems your bun is trying to tell you something. Maybe he wants to back with the other two buns?

Well I used to have him with the other buns (I believe he was bonded with my girl Benzo, but they say baby bunnies can’t be bonded so maybe that’s why he seems like he no longer likes her?), but they were not fixed so I separated them. He honks whenever they come near him, but just sits there to himself, no aggression just sitting. I’ve heard him honk when frightened but this is just strange as he just started to honk frequently. I also noticed him digging in his litter box and trying to dig his ceramic tile I have for him to keep him cool (he’s actually digging the tile as we speak). He still enjoys his pets and his food so he seems healthy his honking aside! Maybe he now hates Benzo :/!

He must be going through puberty! They say buns can’t bond as babies because of the fact their mood and overall behavior normally changes when going through puberty. So a baby bun may seem to be bonded with another bun but as soon as that bun hits puberty it may not get along with the once assumed to be bonded bun. I’m not sure really why buns seem to not like eachother but I think it’s a status and territorial thing. Like one bun wants to be dominant, I’ve heard males compete to be dominant over one another (also that males can be friendlier than females) and females are just bossy. Of course they recommend bonding 1 male and 1 female but it seems you have more than 2 buns. I’d get him fixed if you can, it’s not as important for males to be fixed because there really isn’t any health concerns for an un fixed male bun but it may change the behavior since of course they have testosterone. He may go back to normal self when fixed. My rabbit digs a lot, so that’s normal. My bun is even spayed and still digs, its just part of behavior. For the honking, it seems you have a non aggressive bun who lets you know he doesn’t like something or another bun by honking. If you have a female who is fixed, you can start the bonding process and the honking would eventually diminish. I like to call my bun who honks sassy, I wouldnt say that he hates Benzo. He just isn’t bonded with him. There’s a lot of helpful bonding stuff on here!

I’ve only ever heard my Peanut honk twice and I think that’s because he was feeling frisky lol (he’s neutered)

That’s how my male is!! But my female is very vocal, lol. She will honk when she’s upset or when I make her go back in her pen (I have to scoot her to do so) or when she’s digging or chewing up a hay matt and so on! My male is super quiet I’ve heard him honk probably twice as well! They are both fixed, although I have heard of buns honking less once fixed!!
