Hi!
I have a few questions that aren’t necessarily concerning. I believe all of my concerns are in correlation with Cap (my baby) not being neutered yet. Cap’s neutering appointment is coming up pretty quickly but his behavior and interests in varying bunny behavior is basically giving me bunny whiplash.
First, he had been peeing and pooping on my bed. After about a week he no longer poops or pees on my bed. He still jumps on my bed, but has understood that this bed is mine and I haven’t had any troubles at all with this.
Then a day later after he stopped peeing and pooping, he became interested in digging, initially it was just in his cage and him “redecorating” his bedding and moving it wherever he pleased. This escalated to ripping up some carpet in my room (I did put a cardboard box over it so he would stop and he still enjoys digging through this, which I’m sure me and my landlord are okay with).
Then he stopped digging and became territorial over food and the immediate outside of his cage. Even if I would stand too close to the cage he would begin grunting at me, lunging, nipping and running around me. I also knew that Cap was not hungry every time I fed him because he has unlimited access to his cage which has hay, along with hay placed all around my room for him to roam and eat. And in the mornings before I leave I put a very generous amount of hay in his cage, between 1/2 and 1/4 cup depending on how long until I was home, and then around 1 cup of greens. Then hay and 1 cup of greens at night, he also gets many snacks throughout the day. And I refill his hay “bowls” every day. No matter what whenever my hand entered his cage to put food in he would lunge and nip at my hand.
Now he barely notices my hand in the cage when I feed him and he is obsessively digging at my blankets and carpet. He does love to dig and chew and has many toys for this, but he doesn’t appreciate them, but his newfound obsession with biting holes in towels, blankets, carpets, rugs is giving me whiplash.
He is still an absolute sweetheart, he isn’t showing any health concerns or anything from his normal behavior. He is still eating, drinking, and pooping normally.
I have been attributing this to hormones and him not being neutered yet but I just wanted some feedback about whether anyone noticed this with there bunnies and can give me some explanation ? He does have his vet appointment in a few days, but if anyone experienced something similar and think I should move up his vet appointment to earlier I would appreciate it.
Thank you!
