  Hello all! My bunny Willie has picked up quite the habit recently … he’s started thumping continuously in the middle of the night! Normally he never thumps – the only times I’ve heard him thump have been when my black lab has gotten too close to his pen (a rare occurrence that’s only happened twice). Now, for the past three nights Willie has woken me up with a singular or double thump, strategically placed a few hours after one another so he wakes me up as soon as I’ve fallen back asleep! Here’s the timeline in case my description was muddled:
  12am – Two thumps
  2 am – One thump
  4 am – One thump
  This continues the next night, and the following.
  I of course check on him every time he does this, but I know there isn’t any danger present – his pen is at the foot of my bed so I’m with him all the time. Will this behavior pass? Is he actually getting very scared at something, and if so is there something I can do to assuage him? Has anyone else had any similar problems?

  yup. my bunny lily thumps at random hours for no good reason. to her it may be because she heard or saw something but to us humans we will never know. sometimes shell even thump at her own thumps! what a complete whack job! bunnies do a good job at spooking themselves so i wouldn’t be too worried about it since the moment passes. if you don’t really see your bunny calm down though i would be worried. Does your bunny whale eye for a while after thumping?

  He whale eyes when he is thumping, or as soon as I turn on the light to see what’s the matter. But he does calm down as soon as I start talking to him and check everything (make sure there aren’t any monsters under the bed). He’s also stopped doing it so I think it was just a phase. Thank you for your reply!
