There are many possible causes for a runny eye, infection, dust in the eye, hay poke, tooth problems, infected tear duct. The best thing is to get it checked out by a vet so that they can treat appropriately. The only thing for eyes that I’ve done at home myself, is rinse with a few drops of saline solution to try and clear out any irritation. But that’s only a “just in case” and not a cure all.

If this was sudden, I would lean more toward injury. You’ll want a vet to take a look since a scratch or ulcer on the cornea can be very painful and will not simply go away on it’s own without treatment. Prescription eye drops/ointments are relatively inexpensive.

It sounds like it could be getting or is infected. Have you noticed her itching her eye? She could be irritating it. If it is an infection, she needs antibiotics asap. Once the vet examines her, he/she should be able to tell you if the runny eye was caused by an injury and then got infected, or if there is another underlying reason that the eye is runny (ie. dental issues).

You can rinse eye and all with saline eye wash for humans, then apply a tiny bit of fucidine cream (or if you can get fucidine eyedrops). Fucidine is often prescription free and can be used with rabbits’ eyes, according to Medirabbit.
