How is your rabbit doing now? Im not sure on the difference with time zones. Were you able to return to the vet?

Did you bunny get a shot of a motility med at the 1st visit? If not, ask about them giving her this perhaps some pain medication also. Last time, the vet gave me motility meds in oral form to continue giving her at home.

Don’t worry about the hay just yet. She may not come back to that until well in recovery. The syringe food should provide fibre to keep the gut moving. Do continue to try leafy greens etc if she’s tried some. That will give some fluids and keep the tum from being empty. Ive always had good luck with giving rabbits in stasis willow and rose leaves and petals.

You can still use the benebac. This will help keep the harmful bacteria that proliferates at bay.

Unless she had an infection which was causing her to go into stasis, I don’t see any reason to prescribe antibiotics for stasis, since the causes of it are so varied and antibiotics are not going to help it if there is no infection.

How did you go at the vet? I’m also interested to know. Did the vet check her teeth?

I only wish there were a way to prevent stasis. Feed lots of hay, limit pellets, limit fruit and starch, and give plenty of water. But stasis can be triggered by so many things. We dont always know. I keep benebac and simethicone on hand for early symptoms. I understand your frustration about vets…
Catching it early is key. U dont want to wait till your bunny has stopped eating.

The original vet prescribed an antibiotic when they thought it was a parasite? Yeah, that is weird.

I think learning to recognise stasis symptoms is all about familiarity. If I look at the bunnies, are they sitting in a different area to where they would normally sit at this time of day? Is it a different position to normal? Do they look comfortable, or are the readjusting position often to try and get comfortable? Do they become alert when you call their name? Do they move away when you try to pet them? Will they eat hay from my hand, veggies from my hand, pellets from my hand, a treat from my hand? I find that a common stomach pain/gas/stasis position is front feet extended a little, back feet tucked right up under their but, which pushes their bum up and arches their back down so that their stomach presses against the ground.
