Lily just ACCIDENTILY bit me.It has nothing to do with behavior problems as it was just her trying to eat a piece of cucumber because I wasn’t sure if she still didn’t want to eat cucumber (well she did) she bit me while doing it and it’s bleeding pretty bad. I know rabbits it’s rarely have rabies and especially not indoor domestic rabbits but is there anything else that could be a danger other than those that you get from a simple cut? I’m home alone too (unless my little sister counts lol) so I can’t really ask my mom what to do. It’s really scary o.o I don’t believe Lily was harmed and it bled after she got her mouth off of it. Pretty much, what do I do?

I would clean it with a good disinfectant like hydroperixide or alcohol, put a bandaid on. How big is the wound? Personally i wouldnt wirry about catching something from her, i would just focus on keeping the wound clean.

How deep is the bite? Has it stopped bleeding now?

As long as it is not too bad, I second Vanessa’s advice! I wouldn’t worry about rabies in an indoor bun, aside from being very unlikely, animals that are contagious show other behavioral symptoms. Since you know her well I would say you can rule that out! Otherwise, just clean it well and use some disinfectant.

If the wound is still bleeding, or is very deep, I would suggest calling your mom to see if you can get a doctor to look at it.

Hope you feel better, let us know how it goes!

Rabbits are pretty sanitary so no worries about infection. However run some distilled water over it and press a paper towel and tape it to promote scabbing. Leave for a day or two then remove and place bandaid. Reason I don’t suggest hydrogen peroxide is because it can kill cells and promote scaring.

It’s good that it bled, blood rinses out bacteria and “dirt” and contains factors that help with healing. As BanditCamp says, rabbit bites are as a rule very unproblematic, perhaps because rabbits aren’t carnivores. Cat bites are sth else entirely and will often need medical attention. Treat this wound as any other cut.

Keep the victim calm, restrict movement.

Assure the victim and do not let them panic.

Oh Bunny bites, nothing to worry about, just wash the bite and go about as if it never happened.

This is a late reply because it always logs out when I turn off my phone but thanks so much, it’s getting better now. It was pretty deep and it finally stopped bleeding after around 10 minutes. I rinsed it off a few times but I wasn’t able to find any rubbing alchohol. Once it was dry I also applied something that’s like neosporin but it has stronger affects and it’s from Sweden, don’t know what it’s called.

Bunny bites can be nasty! I got a bad bite on the back of my hand from trying to prevent Bindi biting Sterling during a bonding attempt. I ended up going to the hospital because it was so deep I thought it would need stitches. It didn’t, they just cleaned and bandaged it up but I still have a scar. Thankfully you don’t need a tetanus shot like with a dog bite.
