So last night i was making a salad for the family and my bun tried tomato for the first time and loved it. But I think I may have given him too much because he WON’T STOP POOPING! Not the usual pellets, but big, mushy, STINKY poops. I feel like all I’ve done today is clean up poop. He has plenty of water and hay, but what can I do, if anything, to ease his digestive system? Also, the smell is in his fur, it’s awful. How can I clean him?

Most people will tell you that you absolutely cannot under ANY circumstances give your rabbit a bath, but my experiences have been different. I once let my 3 run around the chicken run with our chickens (the chickens are afraid of the rabbits, there are no fights between species) and when I brought them inside they were all covered in mud, dust and chicken poop. Afraid they’d get sick if they tried to clean themselves, I immediately gave them baths and they loved it They played and splashed and had fun. However, if someone more experienced than I says otherwise, I would definitely listen to them. I’m pretty sure a bath is okay though.
As for his pooping problem, I think you just have to wait it out. Don’t give him any pellets or other foods, just hay and water and persistently clean up after him? :/ Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

I give Lancelot a clean every weekend, sometimes more often. If he needs a good soak, I put a facecloth in the sink for gip, fill it with a few inches of warm soapy water, wash, rinse, dry. If he only needs a spot clean, I hold him in my arms and clean what I need to clean, holding him under a running tap to rinse him. The important part is drying them. THeyr fur doesn’t dry easily. Because I bath him regularly, I keep his fur trimmed so there is less of it to have to dry. I towel dry him, blott what I can with a paper towel, then I use the hair dryer set to low, 12-18 inches from him, and I constantly wave my hand under it so I’m sure of the temp.

Oh thank goodness! I was afraid it wasn’t good for them!  Yes, drying is very important and I once tried a hairdryer on low. Fred and George took to it immediately and they dried off fast but it scared the whiskers off Ginny and she would have none of it even though she had the most fur and needed drying the most.

How is your bunny now, has his digestive system slowed a bit?

Funny u ask… this weekend it slowed a bit. Iv been syringe feeding him again. He wasnt eating much at all, just nibbling really, no teeth grinding, looked comfy, no obvious pain. Just very sleepy and wobbly. End of the month – it is time for his next 5-day regimine of fenbendazole and toltrazuril..,

Yes, sometimes bathing is just necessary! Here’s a good guide on both “dry bath” technique and “wet bath” for the bottom. http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/buttbath.html

Has his poos returned to normal, Kristen? It sounds as though he might be sensitive to tomato. Perhaps too much potassium for him?

Some rabbits will react to certain frutis or veg even though they are completely fine for any other rabbit. I recall one member rabbit had this experience with kale, for instance.

                    Oh no! Not good…
Wish I could help more but it looks like it’s out of my hands now. You have contacted your vet, right? If not do so immediately, things could go downhill very hard, very fast.

Yeah – he has an appointment for tomorrow. This is quite routine – unfortunately I am very used to it… I have a really long thread on his health problems…

It is. I’v had an EC bunny before – and had him euthanized. This time I’m being waaaaay more proactive, and I have read a lot more, and can notice his changes in condition a lot better.

Before I got Fred and George (they were the first two I got) I literally did 6-7 months of research, EVERY DAY. It was agonizing to wait, but I had to make sure I knew everything I could and I still feel like I know next to nothing. XD
