        Hello all!

I currently have a female Satin Angora who is coming up on 3 months (unspayed) and am adopting a 6 to 7 month old female Rex (just spayed). I am getting AJ (Angora) spayed when she reaches six months. AJ lives in our living room in a hacked Ikea cabinet with an xpen around it to give her space to frolic during the day. In the evening and first thing in the morning she gets to run around the living room.

To prepare for Almond’s arrival (Rex) I have a second xpen with her own litter box, bed, toys, etc. that will be set up in a room away from AJ for the time being.

I know at the very least they shouldn’t be introduced until they’re both spayed, but is it okay to keep them in the same room? Can I keep their xpens together? Is it okay for them to get to know each other? Almond’s hormones will have levelled by the time AJ is spayed (likely in early September), but then AJs will have to level too. Do I need to keep them totally apart for the next 5 months?

Keeping them in the same room is a great idea! That’s the prebonding that you need to do before the bunny dates 🙂 And having the pens close is also good. You might want to start them at the opposite side of the room, and move them closer over time. Watch their behavior – only move them as close as they are comfortable with. Eventually – you can have them 6 inches apart. I have my unbounded rabbits on opposite sides of a NIC fence. They are fine with each other like that. It would also be a good time to swap food/water dishes, litter boxes, blankets, toys, etc, to help them get used to having each other’s scent in their territory. By the time they have had their one-month recouperation from surgery, they will probably be ready for bunny dates 🙂 Just no play dates in the mean time…

Thanks! This is what I figured.
