My rabbit is 5 years old, and I was thinking about getting him a friend. I need to get him neutered but I haven’t found good vets near Mississippi. I’m willing to go out of state if they’re a good vet, but with Honey being a bit older than I’d like to get neutered I’m worried. Thanks!

I’ve checked 2 state by state vet lists, and I don’t see any vets for Mississippi. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t any.

Mississippi is bordered by 3 states. Which one is your city closest to? There are vet listings for Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee.

Also, call any vets in your area and find out if any are rabbit savvy. Ask them how many rabbits they see and how often they perform surgery on them. If they don’t see many rabbits, you can ask if they know of vets in your area that do see a lot of rabbits.

I created an account just to answer this! I lived in Waveland near the LA border and took my bun to Dr. James Askew @ Saucier Veterinary Hospital in Saucier, MS. He is not a rabbit specialized vet, BUT he did the spay on my bunny and she turned out just fine. He is the only exotic vet in the area that would see my Bun. He also cared for her sludge bladder and her broken hind leg when we first got her. It was a 45 min drive each way for me, but I could not have asked for a better vet for me and my Bun. He is very knowledgable about rabbits, because his practice works with local rescues socities that rescue wild rabbits and he treats a lot of farm rabbits (domesticateds too). I loved him and his staff is great. Their pricing is minimal because they are a backwoods, country-type of vet and they work with many no-so-well-to-do owners and they refuse to chanrge them more than they must. I am not sure what the rules are, so I hope this comment doesnt get removed, but search Saucier Veterinary Hospital on FB and it should pop up.
