        Hi everyone,

I have a 4 1/2 year old house rabbit (Bertie) and I’m getting increasingly worried about him. I went away on holiday for two weeks three weeks ago and from what I can tell the house sitter gave him a LOT of attention. Since I’ve been back he’s seemed lethargic, not so interested in getting any attention from me and mainly in to just sitting and lying in his corner. I thought he was just sulking at me but it’s been three weeks now. I’m unemployed due to disability so with him in the lounge most days, however I’m often not up early and three nights a week I’m at my girlfriends house so I don’t know if I’m just seeing him at the time he most wants to be asleep, but even the nights I am with him though he just seems less interested – he was being SO needy before I left, sitting next to me for strokes for hours each day (even in the day) and now he only really comes out for food or when he thinks he might be able to break in to my bedroom. It’s like it’s gone from one extreme to the other. I’m worried he’s lonely or depressed? It’s not feasible for me to get another rabbit and although I’m trying to spend as much time with him as possible he just seems so disinterested! Is there anything I can do beyond trying to keep giving him attention? Could this just be a sign of aging a bit? He’s got injections in a week so I’ll ask the vet to check him over then but wanted to check if this seems like something I should get him seen for sooner? To add, he’s not off his food at all (although begging for it slightly less maybe) and his poos are normal, his stomach also isn’t large or hard and he has no other obvious signs of pain or illness.

        Thanks

        Amy

Sounds like your bond with him suffered while you were gone. You should try rebonding with him again and see how that goes. Lay on the floor with him and let you crawl on you, offer him greens from your hands, talk to him softly throughout the day. Maybe offer him more/new toys to play with
