Hey everyone!  Just looking for some tips or advice on this.  So my 9.5 year old Prudence stopped eating her Timothy hay.  She just likes to push it around and decorate her condo.  She eats the heck out of the Kaytee timothy blocks, I mean she devours them.  I also started giving her Kaytee fortified pellets about two years ago.  She gets cilantro and brussel sprouts everyday and a half a carrot every other.  She is not losing weight and still binkys so she is in good spirits.  I was thinking of adding Alfalfa hay to her timothy hay?  Also read that botanical hay from Oxbow added to Timothy will work.  Anyone have any experience or advise on this?  I thank you for your help.  My baby is old and I don’t want to do drastic changes, so I am kind of worried about that.

Have u had her teeth checked? My lancelot stopped eating hay 11 months ago. It took about 7 or 8 months for him to eat hay cubes so at least he is getting some fiber. I do have his teeth checked every 3-4 months since he isnt wearing them down on long strand hay anymore. He is also a senior. I dont have a solution, im in the same boat.

Yeah she needs her teeth checked by the sounds of it. You could also try different hays – timothy isn’t the only option.

I think you should re-think her veggies too tbh. Half a carrot every day is too much, they are high in sugar. Bunnies need leafy greens. A variety of them.

If her teeth check out okay, it may be that she is tired of the hay or that you got a batch that isn’t as fresh or appealing. There are other types you can try. Many rabbits love orchard grass since it’s a little sweeter, there is also meadow hay, oat hay, botanical hay, and some others. Even trying a different brand of timothy hay or different cutting may work.

I agree about the veggies you are giving her, and that half of a carrot is too much. One small piece of carrot would be plenty.

Here are lists of good veggies to give:

Go slowly when introducing new greens/veggies to avoid any GI upset.

Hey thanks everyone! I will get her teeth checked on Monday. I will cut down her carrot as well. I am just scared to make a sudden food move with her being far in years. But I will try a few different hays and more veggies, it reminds me when we first got the girls. I think we bought every veggie on the list. I wonder if she will enjoy some of the ones she and her sister turned their bunny noses up at. Stay tuned. Thank you!

So… I switched her hay to Oxbow Botanical Hay, and she is killing it! I make her toilet paper hay rolls as well and all the hay is eaten. I’m thinking about mixing maybe Orchard grass in with it for a bit of crunch but that’ll be in a few days. Just happy she is eating hay, don’t want to push it. She loves bok choy, so she has a good salad going on.  Her teeth were fine and the vet had said he rarely sees rabbits this old. Thank you for all your advice and the list of other greens to try I am very grateful.
