My rabbits are starting to chew a lot. Do rabbits go through a teething stage? They are wanting to chew on everything it seems! I have given them willow tunnels, willow balls, apple sticks and willow sticks but I am wanting to make some other chew toys for them. Is there a list of safe woods that can be used for chewing? I know pine is safe but are other woods such as balsa wood, basswood, or birch safe? I have a ton of wood pieces left over from toy making supplies from my bird along with sisal rope so if any of these would be safe I would love to make them some chew toys. Or if there is a website that sells bunny chew toys that would be great as well, so far I have had no luck in finding chew toys at mt local stores.

          Here’s a good list I found

          “Wood that rabbits can eat
Rabbits like to chew on on the young shoots and buds of many young trees especially fruit trees, deciduous trees and bushes.
          Apple
          Birch
          Blackberry
          Fir tree
          Hazel
          Hawthorn
          Maple
          Pear
          Raspberry
          Spruce tree
          Willow”

They also sell some great bunny chew toys on this site! They are under the “store” tab

I know this. I have two adult rabbits that hardly chew on anything they aren’t supposed to though and now that the babies that the rescue I rescued gave birth to have turned 8 weeks they are starting to chew on everything and anything they can get their teeth on which is why I asked if they go through a chewing stage. If it is something that needs to be corrected early on then I want to make sure that I give them plenty of the right things to chew on to discourage them for chewing on the wrong things.

You could try the distraction technique. When they’re chewing on bad things, you can make a noise to stop them and place a good chew in front of them. Sometimes they are determined tho so you might need to block access. I don’t think they go through a ‘teething stage’ but I could be wrong!

I have taken away most of the bad things that they can chew on but the one thing I can’t take away that they are chewing on is the litter box .
