Has anyone ever fly their bunnies internationally on a flight? How was the process for the bunnies?

I may be moving back from United States to Hong Kong, and want to bring my baby with me. The flight is around 15 hours, so I want to make sure it is safe for her to fly with me.

        Any opinion helps! Thank you.

Below is an overview of the steps to follow when importing small mammals. Download AVA’s Veterinary Conditions of Small Mammals for more details on the import requirements.

          1. Ensure the small mammals fulfil AVA Veterinary Conditions
Ensure that the small mammals intended for import fulfil the veterinary conditions stated in the Veterinary Conditions of Small Mammals.

Veterinary Conditions include treatment for parasites, no signs of certain diseases, etc. As some conditions carry specific timeframes, do read the conditions carefully.

Please note that personal pet owners have to have kept their small mammals as pets continuously since birth or for the past 6 months immediately prior to export.

          2. Reserve quarantine space with AVA
All small mammals have to be placed under quarantine for a period of 2 weeks on arrival in Singapore. Please prepare proof of ownership if you have owned your small mammal for more than 6 months and attach it to your import license application.

For all others, please go to Animal Quarantine & AVA Border Control Checkpoints for more info on SAQS and reserving quarantine space.

          3. Apply for Singapore Customs clearance
          AVA import licence

Apply for an import licence via the LicenceOne (AVA e-Licensing) website to bring small mammals into Singapore. The licence is valid for 30 days from date of issue.

For a step-by-step guide to apply an import licence, visit http://www.ava.gov.sg/e-services

Please note that you will need to log in to the LicenceOne (AVA e-Licensing) website and locate the specific import licensing service. You will also have to find a bunny approved flight carrier and company to take you into Singapore search the wabbit wiki for flights that go from lax to sg.

ALL FLIGHTS IMPORTING ANIMALS MUST GO THROUGH SINGAPORE, ANYWHERE ELSE WILL BE DENIED AND EUTHANIZED

          4. Obtain Veterinary Health Certificate
AVA requires each imported consignment of small mammals to be accompanied by a Veterinary Health Certificate signed by a government veterinary authority or a registered veterinarian of the country of export.

          5. Make an appointment for border control inspection
All small mammals arriving in Singapore must undergo inspection at AVA’s border control office (Changi Animal and Plant Quarantine Station or Tuas Checkpoint).

See Animal Quarantine & AVA Border Control Checkpoints for more information on making an appointment for inspection.

          6. Inspection and quarantine upon arrival in Singapore
Your imported small mammals will undergo veterinary inspection upon arrival in Singapore. Upon clearing customs, the animals will be transported to the quarantine facility.

See Animal Quarantine & AVA Border Control Checkpoints for more information on the arrival procedures.

          Additional Requirements for Commercial Importers
In addition to the steps listed above, commercial importers of small mammals must also ensure that the following requirements are met:

          Approval of overseas facilities
Small mammals for commercial import must be derived from approved facilities.

Seek AVA’s approval of the facility before you apply for an import licence by supplying technical information of the breeding facility (e.g. name, address, type and population of animals, vaccination regime, etc.). You can do so via our Contact Centre.

          Pet Shop Licence
In order to import pets for commercial purposes, you must first obtain a Pet Shop Licence.

          Customs Clearance Permit
Before importing, you need to obtain a Customs Clearance Permit (CCP) online via Tradenet. This permit is for import clearance at border control checkpoints

For enquiries on the CCP, please contact Singapore Customs at (65) 6355 2000 or customs_documentation@customs

Thank you for the information! Would my bunny still need to be quarantined if i am only connecting flights at singapore? (i.e. flying from US to sinagpore and then immediately to Hong Kong)?

If rabbits do not eat for 8 to 12 hours they can go into stasis, by 24 to 48 hours it can be fatal.

You will need to contact the ava in order to answer that question. Although I did a small time as a customs agent in the Army it is still better to obtain word from the ava.
