I have a vet appointment for my bunny in 7 hours. I’m going to try and attach a video. He’s having trouble breathing. I can see his head bob up and down and his sides move in and out as he’s trying to breathe. I can also hear him breathing. No rattling or squeaking, just air through his nostrils. No sign of discharge. This has been going on for 24 hours. He is eating his pellets, but not his hay. He definitely isn’t acting like himself either. Does anyone know what this could be? I’ve had him for 4 weeks.

Is it warm where you are? You could try filling a plastic bottle with cold water and ice and put it near heim, so he can cool off against it if he likes. Many buns appreciate this on warm days.

A bunny is supposed to always breathe through their noses, healthy buns never pant with their mouth open like an overheated dog would. So that’s all normal. Rabbits use their ears to regulate their temp, not their tongue. Thermoregulation is a huge part of why rabbits have these big ears, they’re not just for picking up sounds. If his ears are warm, his body is sending warm blood to them to help cool off. (That’s normal and good).
