  I should start out by saying I would never ever ever think about doing this if it wasn’t under desperate circumstances and I’m working to find an alternative if others deem it really unsafe. I have to consider leaving my precious bun in his travel cage in the car for around 45 mins tomorrow morning. The temperautre outside is supposed to be high 50’s to low 60’s. I would also be in the shade of a parking deck with the windows open but I know how sensitive bun’s are to the heat and don’t want to risk any sort of damage to my bun’s health. I know it’s not truly safe to leave any animal in any car no matter the temperature but was wondering realistically how bad people think this particular situation would be.

  Even with cooler temperatures, I would be concerned about the stress that it might put on him. He would be in an unfamiliar place, alone, and subject to a range of different sounds/noises.

  What are the desperate circumstances? I’d try to find an alternative if you can, you never know how hot it will get in there. If you absolutely have to leave him in the car I would suggest a large carrier so that he can move around, and wrap an ice pack or frozen bottle in a towel for him to lie against if he gets hot (but only if you have a large enough carrier, he should be able to move away from the cold bottle if he chooses).

  Your house would need to be slowly reduced down to 50 to 60 degrees over the course of 24 to 48 hours beforehand so your bun can be acclimated. Since you didnt do that, the answer is no, there is no safe way to leave your bun in the car like that. Differences of over 10 degrees in less than 24 hours can send a rabbit into shock or cause sickness, not to mention just the stress of being alone in the carrier in the car.
