  Hi, i was wondering if i should get my rabbit fixed? He is a four year old lionhead rabbit and i’m thinking about getting another rabbit . I was wondering about the risks of getting a rabbit neutered. My friend was going to get a second rabbit but he died while they were trying to fix him. So basically how often do rabbits die while getting fixed, and should i fix him even if i don’t end up getting a second rabbit?

  If you’re not planning on getting another rabbit, you don’t have to have your rabbit fixed. Fixing a male has no really important health effects. We do it for behavioral reasons and to avoid pregnancies. It’s a whole other story with a girl bunny.
  
  A fixed male bun can’t (of course) get testicular cancer, but thats a form of cancer that’s rare in rabbits until they get really old. (Because rabbits nowadays tend to get older than they did when rabbit medicine wasn’t as advanced, there is an increasing incidence of testicular cancer in rabbits.)
  
  The risks with having an older bun fixed aren’t huge, it’s mainly about the anesthesia. I’m sorry your friend’s rabbit died.
