I’ve had Zucchini for two months now. She’s a tough girl and she warmed up to me and the new environment very quickly! The vet says she is most likely between 3-5 years old, she isn’t spayed (even though her previous owner said she never spayed or showed territorial tendencies?). She was apparently originally bought from a gross bunny breeding operation but I rescued her from her previous owners, who also weren’t caring for her well. Anyways, she seems happy with me, I feed her well and she approaches me daily for pets and has been exploring my face/stomach/arms a lot lately, getting on her hind legs and sniffing me. Yesterday I picked her up for the first time and put her on my bed. She thrashed like crazy, but once she got on the bed she seemed super excited and investigated, eventually settling down for a nap.
Well tonight I did the same thing and I placed her on the bed. She was mad at me that I picked her up and ignored me for a few minutes, but then she settled next to me on a towel. I wrapped the towel around her body and she closed her eyes and seemed super relaxed. I wrapped her tighter into a swaddle and picked her up into my arms. She had her eyes closed and it seemed like she was sleeping it was so cute! But then through the towel I felt her heart beating super fast and she woke up and started moving around, so I gently moved her down to the ground and gave her some treats and left her alone.
What I’m wondering is, was she really enjoying being swaddled, or was it a “trance” and she was actually panicking and shutting down? Because if it’s the latter I don’t want to stress her out! Can I try it again tomorrow? It’s really nice to cuddle with her in that way, and I figure it will be more comfortable for her being picked up like that than surprise grabbing her.
Thanks!
Sophia
