My buck is 1.5 yrs old and seems to be 100%. Cuddling lots, eating normally, hopping around happily, pooping normally, posture is fine – all bases covered here.
However, he has a tiny little red area in the corner of one of his eyes (not red on the other eye). It is quite a bright red but it is only a little teeeeny area and he is not experiencing any discomfort (let me prod around it for a photo, acting and eating normal as I’ve said, etc). Now, he has a bit of a red corner before and it naturally went away so I am thinking it isn’t anything to worry about, but I can’t help being paranoid.
I am fairly sure it can’t be the “red eye” disease as it’s just a little dot, and there’s actually nothing wrong with him and no changes in behaviour or pain, it looks more like a tiny tiny cut. But I do worry just in case.
Now, obviously I will keep an eye on him over the next couple of days to ensure that it doesn’t get bigger or worse, any changes in behaviour etc, but I am just looking for a possible explanation and perhaps some reassurance. From the photo – have you seen this before? Reason to worry or no? As I’ve said, he has had a similar thing before and it was absolutely fine.
The only possible explanation I can think of is perhaps while itching his face with his hind legs (as he often does, and his feet get quite close to his face) he has maybe caught the corner with his nail just a touch.
Anyway, any insights would be appreciated. Do your rabbits get this? Is it just a nick that dies down usually or the beginning of a problem? Please do not worry for my bun, the slightest worsening in the condition and he’ll be straight to the vets, I just would like to see how he does in the next couple of days first and don’t want to worry unnecessarily the entire time.
