I’ve only had my bun for a short time and have been feeding him the hay he was being fed before I got him. The Kaytee Forti-Diet Timothy Hay, but I think it’s time I switch him over to a better quality. I’m thinking Oxbow timothy hay. Do I need to mix the hays the same way I would when switching pellets or would a sudden switch not affect my bun since it’s still just timothy hay?

It’s not necessary to transition with hay. The only time it can be an issue is if introducing alfalfa to young buns

I would do a mix of 50/50 You want your bun to get used to something new. After a few days try and see if you can fully switch and watch what happens. If he does not eat go back to 50/50 And give it more time.

It isn’t technically necessary, however I always found mixing to be of more benefit. There can be a taste difference in brand hay (depending on when they pick it, cure it, etc), and if it’s an abrupt change with a big taste difference – it might be enough of a change in routine that the bun won’t eat it. So mixing it in is usually a bit more of a gentle way to introduce a new flavour and therefore a new part of their routine
