Hi there,
We had a bonded pair of rabbits Vincenzo and Butters. Unfortunantly Vincenzo passed away suddenly and Butters was left without a buddy. So about 4 weeks later, we decided to rescue another bunny, we called him Kevin.
So when they first met at the rescue, there was no fighting, chasing, biting or anything. In a matter of fact Kevin groomed Butters. So we decided to get him.
Once we got them home, we put him in the cage and she is free roam. We put a playpen out and they were so aggressive towards each other it was like they were trying to kill each other. So we decided to strip it right back and put the play pen around the cage and put one in the cage and the other in the play pen. 2 weeks have passed and they get along in the cages. No fighting through the bars nothing. We tried to have mini bonding sessions along the way and the interactions have been less and less aggressive they pretty much scratch and run away.
We decided to try and bond them again in the shower today. This is a neutral space and neither have been in there. And well lets just say they ended up circiling each other and then stopped. But they had both got a good bite at each other and wouldnt let go. We sprayed with water and pushed a broom between them an had found that they pulled a huge chunk of hair out and it has broken the skin. It looks so painful.
We have a shared space where they both roam around, but not at the same toime as well.
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how did you bond them. Any advice right now would be appreciated.
