I picked up Hopscotch the other day to clip her nails. I noticed some crust on the edge of her ear. I looked inside and saw a big brown swollen crusty lesion. I thought maybe it was a really bad infection and brought her to my vet. The vet took some slides and believes it’s cancer from the cerumen duct. She suspects it’s adenocarcinoma. Hopscotch has a bunch of swollen glands in bad places and the vet thinks it’s spread.
She’s eating, drinking, and playful. No head shaking or balance issues.

Has anyone had experience with this and how long did it take before your bunny was symptomatic? I was just completely blown away and not expecting to hear my vet say cancer or palliative care.

Only 4 short days after her diagnosis, Hopscotch died. Her lymph nodes enlarged about 4 times the size they were a few days ago, her breathing labored, and she started falling over. She was fine yesterday. I drove her to the vet anticipating on putting her down but she died on the way.

Oh I am very sorry! What a shock for you. I haven’t heard of this type of cancer with the ear before. It was obviously very fast moving.

I’m sorry you lost your dear girl. This may not be much of a comfort to you but I always feel, when a rabbit passes, that at least they had someone really looking out for them in their lives, no matter how long or short it was.

That is very sad. It’s good that you were with her in that moment and that she knew she wasn’t alone.

I’m very sorry. At least she didn’t have to suffer long, since she was happy and playful up until 4 days before she passed. And she had you with her.
