I came home to find a bunny I’m fostering and who was getting spayed in less than a week had a litter. I’m sure there are so many topics on this in the forums already, but oh my god I’m freaking out, what do I do? Will it be okay to leave mama bun and her kits in the same cage? Should I still let mama bun out for playtime every day? Will she take care of everything like a mama cat? Do I have to do anything for them? These are dumb questions but oh my god I’m freaking out, I had no idea she was pregnant

First thing, did she build a nest?  Second thing, make sure she has unlimited food and water (hay and pellets), as she needs the extra nutrition and hydration while lactating.

Others with more experience can chime in, but you want to minimize disturbing her at first, but you will need to check the babies to remove any that have died.

If she has already built a nest, I believe you can provide a nest box and she may move into it.

And yes, definitely keep them where they are, in the same cage, until the babies are weaned. Not sure about play time…. someone else will have to chime in. It probable will depend on your set up, because you won’t want her to be separated from her babies.

She has built a nest. So far, no stillborns, but she’s still in the middle of having them.

First off don’t panic that doesn’t solve anything.

Check out this document and hopefully it will help:

                  Thank you guys!
And she’s a Netherland dwarf, but who knows what the father is.
She successfully had three very wiggly babies with two who didn’t make it.

It looks like I just leave her be and make sure she has everything she needs for two months. Ez pz!

You can check their tums after feeding-time. Their tums should be nicely rounded.

Good luck i remember when my cat had kittens best to leave them alone and let the mother care for them. I would just make sure the mother is comfortable and in a quiet spot I bet they will grow to be cutties! Baby bunnies are beyond cute!!!
