I would think both things are the same because if buns feet walk on them, they then lick them.
You can tell if there is accélérant, it definitely should say so on the bag / lino.
If it says 100% wood, then that’s your answer

Thats a very good point haha hadnt thought of that! Though the problem is it doesnt say 100% wood but it doesnt say anything about accelerant either but it does say economical and carbon clean so should i hope its safe? They have a shiny coat on the pellet

Is there any contact info on the bag? The manufacturer should be able to tell you whether or not the pellets contain accelerants. If they did, placing straw on top of them still wouldn’t take away the danger.

Another type of pellet that is just as economical, with no worry about accelerants is horse stall pellets. You should be able to find these pellets at feed stores, horse supply stores or places like Tractor Supply.

And should you soak it like in horse stalls or put it in as it is? Sorry for the bombardment my little buns in need of some decent litter and this is the first time using wood pellets

I don’t soak my wood pellets/horse stall pellets, because I only use it in the litter box, not as bedding. Horses use it as bedding, that’s why you water the pellets first, so they’ll get soft and comfortable for the horse to stand and lie on.

Nope, don’t need to soak them. Mine are shiny too. You don’t need to put a whole layer down, the pellets when wet, swell a lot.

I’ve just put a lighter underneath a pellet (held in pliers) for 5-10 secs, and the pellet didn’t catch fire…. LOL. And smelt just normal wood burn.
Maybe with an accelerant it would light faster and would smell ‘petrol’y’…..
Just an idea. Don’t burn yourself !!! LOL
