Hi everyone, at what age do you suggest starting to restrict pellets? I have a young bunny (Mimi) who is almost 4 months old, and so far I’ve been giving her unlimited pellets like the vet recommended. Problem is, she shares a cage with an adult bunny who’s a bit of a glutton… I know keeping the bowl filled isn’t healthy for him, but I don’t want to limit her access until it’s appropriate.

For the record, they both eat Sherwood Adult Rabbit Food Timothy Blend. (I asked the vet about this, and he said it wouldn’t hurt her to eat adult food, whereas my older bunny Mochi could get really fat on the alfalfa-based baby food!) And of course they always have unlimited hay

I think you’ll be fine limiting pellets now. I started limiting my previous bun Bandit at 3 months old, unlimited pellets is more to ensure they’re getting enough nutrients, but they don’t need a whole bowl full, especially if it’s detrimental to your other bun. I think you would be fine to limit your baby to 1/2 cup tops per day, but you need to make sure that Mimi is getting it and your adult bunny doesn’t steal all of her food.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the advice!
