        Hi,

I took my boy Bertrand in today to be neutered. I took him in at half eight in the morning and collected him at five, it’s now quarter past nine. They said that he was not eating yet, but that he was in good spirits and they gave me some food to syringe feed him with every hour until he starts to eat. If he hasn’t started to eat himself they said that I should bring him back in the morning.

I am really worried though because he hasn’t started to eat yet, I think that he is tired and sick of me shoving food in his face. I have not been able to syringe feed him any of the food though, I can’t hold him still, he keeps getting really agitated and kicking and I don’t want him to hurt himself, he must be sore. Will he be okay until morning with out the syringe food? Is it best to let him sleep? or should I try harder to get the syringe food down him even if he is fighting it? I’m very worried, any advice would be very helpful..

Kicking and fighting is a good sign, but I’d really want him to eat at least sth before you go to bed. Is he not interested in anything? Fresh fragrant herbs, a favorite veg, treats? Treats are quite ok, no need to worry about sugar/fat in a situation like this.
If he refuses everything edible, is there any chance you could get someone to help you syringe feed him? It’s a lot easier if you are two people.

Are his ears cold? If they are, he might need warming up. Buns can get hypothermic after having been under GA. It’s dangerous. You can use a hot water bottle or hand warmers, just make sure he has enough room to move away from the heat source if he doesn’t want it.
Also serve water in a bowl if he normally has a bottle, he might not feel up to working a bottle.

His ears are cold. I hadn’t noticed. I don’t have hand warmers or a hot water bottle…

Oh… they feel a bit warmer now.. I don’t know. I am so nervous he will get ill, I turned the heating up a bit.

I think I have been stressing him out.. everytime he sits down I put hay and different foods in front of him if not trying to syringe feed him. maybe he needs to sleep, he keeps dozing off if I leave him for too long.
