  I posed a little while back about a bunny I recently rescued that had matted fur. Well yesterday I woke up to her pulling out her fur and building a nest, I assumed since I got her from a rescue that it was a false pregnancy but a few hours later she gave birth to 5 babies. I quickly made her a box and filled it with hay and the fur she had pulled and placed the babies inside. This morning when I woke up she was building a nest again but back when she has built the nest the first time. I don’t know why shes trying to build another nest.

  Maybe she wants the nest where she chose to build it? I know nothing about buns having babies but when you think how picky buns are with where things go in their home areas (litter trays etc) that’s my assumption. Have you tried putting the box in that same spot?

  No. Only because the spot is right next to her litter box and I had read not to place the nest box next to her litter box . She gave birth on a blanket she had made a dip in the middle of and filled it with hay and her fur. I dont know if I should place the blanket in the box with the babies or not. I am afraid the blanket with suffocate the babies or something!

  Oh I have no idea about putting it next to the litter box but if she is only going to make a new nest there anyway it might be all you can do. hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will come along soon. is she feeding the babies, that would be my main concern

  She kept taking everything out of the box I made her and trying to rebuild the nest she had made when she gave birth so I just let her rebuild the nest and placed the babies back into the nest she made in the dip in the blanket and then built up the sides around the babies with more hay. As soon as I moved them back she immediately went to them and they latched on and started feeding and she calmed down so I think it might be best for me to just let her have her babies in the nest she built for them.

  She seems like she won’t settle for any place but there, so yes, I’d just leave it.

  Let her build her own nest. She may not find the ones you build to be satisfactory, no matter what you do. When she is done, be sure to move the babies

  Im glad you were able to discern what was going on. I had thought perhaps she still had more kits to come, but it sounds as if it was a location preference!
  
  Is the Rescue aware of the situation you are in? Had she been with them long, do you know?

  She’s calmed down now that the babies are in the nest she created for them so I think it was just a location thing. She’s eating really well and drinking a lot. I am changing her water out often for her. I did contact the rescue to let them know but they have no contacted me back. They had told me they had had her for a month when I adopted her and I have had her for two weeks so I am pretty sure she had to have gotten pregnant while at the rescue and it couldn’t have happened with the previous owner prior to arriving at the rescue. :-/
