        Hi everyone,

I’ve recently found some cloudy, thick, almost white, pale yellow urine in my bunny’s litter box. I know that bladder sludge is darker in color, so I doubt that it’s that, and he doesn’t seem in pain. He’s acting normal, eating and drinking. I’m feeding him the same amount of pellets as I usually do, along with vegetables. He’s neutered and has recently turned a year old, if that matters. What could it be? Is it concerning?

Sounds like Calcium too much of it, check his food bag and if there is a lot of calcium in it change it, plenty of water and some nice greens might do the trick, but please note I’m NOT a vet, I was brought up with bun buns at my parents house in the countryside and we didn’t have a vet for miles.

This sounds pretty normal. Calcium is naturally excreted in the urine, when it builds up in the bladder and then comes out in a thick sludge is the concern. I suspect it’s normal urine with calcium being excreted. It doesn’t sound like it’s anything to be concerned about, though you could ease up on calcium rich veggies for a few days if you wanted just to reduce the amount of excess calcium he’s urinating.

Of course if you’re particularly concerned about it, taking pictures or a urine sample and heading to a vet would be your best bet

That also happened with Luna when I was switching her over to sherwood pellets. I contacted them and they said she was getting rid of extra calcium.

/Oh ok, thanks! Would bok choy have a lot of calcium? I’ve been feeding him a bit more of that these days, maybe that’s the reason

Bok Choy, I think, is a higher calcium veg but it can be fed every day and it has enough water to dilute the calcium content. As you can see, rabbits get rid of the calcium they don’t use. His body is doing what it’s supposed to.
