Hi everyone. Monte has a limp on one of his back legs, he’s holding it off the ground sometimes but other times he will use it.
Very worried as that’s a lot of weight balancing on one back leg! He’s fine in himself, eating, moving (off balance on his behind), drinking, periscoping somehow, and just overall still himself. He has slowed down a bit, more careful, but no signs of significant pain: No hunched over, no abnormalities, no tooth grinding, no loss of appetite etc.
He’s had this since yesterday and there are two things I believe could’ve caused this. 1) I made him jump by forgetting to talk to him before opening the door and he had a mad dash and ended up catching his back legs on his litter tray and flipping to his side. 2) He had been in the garden the day before and had gone mental running about and binkying, unsure whether he’s had this much exercise before coming to us and therefore may have overexerted himself and pulled something.
I’ve felt his leg, his toes and he’s been generally okay with me massaging and feeling but due to his size I cannot pick him up without someone being here to check under his foot. My mum is coming over this afternoon to help with this and we are scheduling a vet appointment for Monday or Tuesday (I can’t drive, hence why I’ve not gotten him checked over sooner). In the meantime he’s been on ‘box rest’ so only able to be in 8×5 ft of his 12×5 space and I’ve lined the whole area with very soft straw bedding and hay.
Any advice welcome, unsure how to keep him comfortable without him hurting himself more. I feel terrible for making him jump and I have a feeling that caused this
Vibes also welcome. He has improved since yesterday as he’s moving around more but he is still lifting it and wobbling, hence why I don’t think there’s any break in his bones.
