It’s a bit hard to tell. Urine can look that dark, especially after it’s been exposed to the air for a while.
Is he drinking well? Does he have a bottle or bowl?

You could try the hydrogen peroxide test if you have some handy. Just the 3% stuff you can get from supermarket or pharmacy.It bubbles when in contact with blood.  I don’t know how accurate the test is though. as it may react with normal proteins in urine, not just blood.

I need to drop some in normal bun pee sometime to see what it does. When Gooseman had blood in his pee recently, and I put some drops in the patch I found, it fizzed up crazily. It actually looked like eggwhites that had been whipped to make meringues. 

Usually blood will come out after the pee, so it appears in the middle of the puddle. 

This is what I saw for Goose. This was very fresh blood. Sometimes blood may look a darker red.

The peroxide test should show if it is indeed blood in his urine. On his legs isn’t that red, more of an orange or brown. Rabbit urine varies in color. Usually it is yellow, but it can be orange or even red at times. Try the peroxide if you have any. Hope Boston is doing better from his EC.

Peroxide testing would be good. Bunny urine can become red spontaneously, through mechanisms yet unknown, so it doesn’t have to be caused by food. The pee often “starts out” lighter in color and go increasingly red after exposure to air.

Potamus very generously  pee’d on the floor yesterday  and I popped a puppy training pad on it. I tried the peroxide on it and there was no visible reaction. So there you go, it seems normal urine (hers at least) doesn’t react to peroxide. Thanks Potamus. 

If I ever need a puddle of rabbit urine to test, all I need do is take out the litterbox and within minutes, she’ll hop over and pee on the floor. Even if she doesn’t really need to go.
